A Common place

(press the > arrow button above to play the video, and turn your speakers up!)

A load of students spend their 'down time' trying to find places to hang. The Cafeteria's an answer. The majestic front steps of the college are an answer. Even corridors and the reception area will do.

But, the real place to hang is the Student Common Room. It's part of the Lowery Building, next to engineering on the ground floor. And, guess what? Yep, those folk in the Creative Media Resources department have made a video about it. This walks you round what's in the common room so's you can then just turn up and hang there looking like you've been to the place hundreds of times!

Fashion, turn to the left, Fashion, turn to the right

(press the > arrow above to play the video, and turn your speakers up)

A highlight of the college year is the Annual Fashion Show. Some say 2007 was the best yet. The college's Creative Media Resources department were there with three professional cameras capturing the event, relaying it onto the big screen, and recording everything. They hope to bring a full video out soon.

Meanwhile, here's a quickfire collection of shots from the days on the catwalk for you to enjoy.

Passing out as they pass out

It was a very hot and sticky day back in 2006 when the annual Graduation Ceremony took place. The evening started with a procession of the Principalship and her Curriculum staff along with the Mayor of Waltham Forest and the Corporation that runs the college. All were dressed in their academic robes.

They reached the stage and took their seats whilst the opening speeches were made.

Then each 'graduate' was called one by one to the stage in order to receive their certificates and a warm congratulation handshake from Carol Gibson, our Principal.

The whole ceremony was captured on video and has now been made available on DVD. (Copies can be purchased from the Library on the 4th floor of the Main building)

We've managed to get hold of a streaming version! It was filmed by two high quality video cameras that were also providing 'live' pictures to a large screen on the day. The DVD starts with highlights from the speeches, and then shows every single student walking up to the stage. It concludes with the tradition of those wearing mortarboard hats throwing them into the air.

The streaming version is lower quality than the DVD of course, but it captures the heat of the moment - and it certainly was a very hot evening as you'll see from the number of people fanning themselves.

The Show of Shows

Looking back to last year (again), we've managed to dig up yet more video clips to share!

Throughout 2006 the college put on a number of different shows in the main hall and the Performance Arts studio.

The Alternative Fashion Show, the Hair and Beauty Show, the main Fashion Show, and the end of year show from the Performance Arts students all showed off the abilities of students. Those abilities ranged from singing, through dancing, walking the catwalk, to arranging the hair, designing and making the clothes, and dressing the models, as well as working behind the scenes.

The video clips we've dug up were recently played on the college stand at the Clothes Show Live showing passers by the full range of activities in the college. Let us know what you think by adding your comments at the end of this article.

The Engineering Road Challenge 2006

Last year during a cold and blustery morning the racing team turned up ready to put pedal to the metal and switch to top gear. Previously they'd spent many hours carefully assembling their vehicles, tuning them, and putting them through their paces before it was time for the real battle to commence for poll position.

We managed to get hold of this video clip of the fever pitched Grand Prix friendly 'drive-off' during which the team really felt the need for speed.

At the Starting Line were Keshane, Khan, Emanuel, Abdul, Luke, Lucky, and Philip, taking last minute advice and making final adjustments. Then the Starting Flag was raised...

As you can see from the clip, despite some mega crashes, some control problems, and a few bruised thumbs, all survived to tell the tale. A great day was had by all.

[We'd like to know if this video (with audio) clip doesn't play properly for you. If you have any problems, please mention it by clicking on the "Comments" link below. Thanx.]
